The City of Agde

While Cap d'Agde is a modern complex, the city of Agde has 2600 years worth of history, and heritage. Positioned, where the Herault River, and the Canal du Midi meet, the town’s history stretches way back to the 5th Century, when it was a Greek colony. Built next to the extinct volcano, Mont Saint Loup, many of the buildings were constructed using the black volcanic rock from the area.

Today the old centre offers visitors much to see and do, with its beautiful architecture, pretty winding streets and artisan shops. There is a colourful local market every Thursday, offering local produce and crafts. There are plenty of restaurants, and bars where you can relax.

La Grau d'Agde

Close to both the old city of Agde, and the resort of Cap d'Agde, is the small fishing village of Grau d'Agde, which sits on the left bank of the river Herault where it meets the Mediterranean. A much quieter, small resort, the village has its own beach, and an attractive quayside lined with restaurants and bars. During high season there is a river ferry that will take you to La Tamarissiere.

La Tamarissiere

If you really want to be away from the hustle, and bustle, then this small village is the place for you! it is  surrounded by a two hundred year old pine forest. La Tamarissiere is pure tranquillity. From here enjoy fishing, boat cruises, sailing and wind surfing. Especially idyllic for camping.

Cap d'Agde Beaches

With 11 beaches, Cap d'Agde, you're spoilt for choice!

From the naturist beach to the east of Cap d'Agde, all the way to the tranquil beach at Tamarissiere.

The Languedoc Roussillon has a great reputation for award winning, blue flag beaches.

All roads and traffic are set away from the beaches, but parking is easy, and convenient with plenty of spaces, and wooden walkways leading to the beaches, suitable for wheelchairs and push chairs.

There are plenty of public conveniences. Beach bars, and restaurants are all just a stone's throw away, and many green spaces that have been created around the beaches.

Saint Vincent Plage – A small beach, set attractively in a cove just to the east of Grau d’Agde
